


Here are the 2004-2005 season highlights and overviews:
Blair did well at the Walter Johnson scrimmage on September 28. The A team of Saul Kinter (C), Martino Choi, Randy Li and Sheila Rajagopal went 3-1, losing only to Churchill A in a close match. The B team of David White (C), Armin Rosen, John Silberholz and Jeff Cao performed very well, finishing undefeated. Rankings were not created and points totals were not tracked outside of actual games in keeping with the idea of being a scrimmage practice for teams to begin the new year.
Blair attended the tournaments at Gonzaga on October 16 and Blake on October 30 and did well, with either one or both teams making it to the playoffs.
Blair made it past the preliminary rounds in the Quizmaster taping on October 19. The team of Saul Kinter (C), Martino Choi, Armin Rosen and Jeff Cao, with over 500 points, more than doubled the 285-point score of their opponent, Damascus High School.
Blair ranked 3rd in the international Knowledge Master Open Tournament, beaten only by Thomas Jefferson High School and State College Area High School in PA. Blair reached a score of 1781, surpassing all other Maryland high schools. To read more about the KMO competition, click here.
Blair won its first "It's Academic" TV Taping against Wooton and Fairfax High Schools with a score of 620-445-410. The team, Saul Kinter (C), Martino Choi and Armin Rosen were featured Saturday morning, January 8, on NBC4 at 10:30 a.m. Blair will advance to the next round of taping on the show.
Blair attended the January 15 competiton at Thomas Jefferson High School, and both its A team, Saul Kinter (C), Sheila Rajagopal and Justin Kovac, and B team Jeff Cao(C), David White, Armin Rosen and Ravi Umarji advanced to the quarterfinals, finally making 6th and 7th place. Saul and Armin were two of the strongest individual players in the entire tournament.
Blair went to the January 29 competition at Howard High School. The team of Saul Kinter(C), Jeff Cao, David White, Armin Rosen, Ben Green and Ravi Umarji went 5-1 in preliminaries, losing to Blake High School but beating Richard Montgomery High School's A team. Blair's team then beat Sidwell High School in the first round of finals, but was defeated by RM A in the 2nd round. However, by placing in the top 8, Blair still garnered a bid to NAQT.
Blair did extremely well at the February 12 competition at the University of Virginia. The A team of Saul Kinter(C), Jeff Cao and Armin Rosen went 7-0 in preliminary play, defeating teams such as Dorman B and Dupont B, garnering a 5th seed for the playoffs. After beating STAB A, the team lost to Blake by 5 points on the last question. By tying for 5th, the team most likely captured a second bid to NAQT.
After getting a wildcard bid in the second round of Quizmaster, the A team, composed of Martino Choi(C), Saul Kinter, Jeff Cao, and Armin Rosen played against Rockville on March 1. After a very close game, with the score being tied after the first two rounds, Blair slipped and was down by 90 at the end of the third. However, after a roaring comeback, the score was tied at the end, leading to a tiebreaker. Blair got the tiebreaker, winning 490-475; Blair will play against the winner of Whitman and BCC in the semifinals.
